World Day of Social Justice - Legal Awareness Aid and Justice for Rural Communities in India

World Day of Social Justice - Legal Awareness Aid and Justice for Rural Communities in India
In this panel discussion, our panel of legal experts Adv. Taranjit Singh, Adv. Siddhanth Deshpande and Adv. Kumar Shivang started with a discussion of a very important topic about what financial challenges people from rural India face and how the government and the judiciary help them at a broader level.
The discussion further emphasized the efficiency of various courts at the rural level. The experts discussed several rules and laws for providing legal aid to rural communities but a lack of implementation. Along with that, the villagers have to pay a lot of money to get legal aid for their land and other disputes. There is a stereotype among these communities that the law always sidelines rich people. However, breaking these stereotypes is a must. Rural Communities typically face succession issues, property disputes, caste disputes, etc.
The panelists also discussed how the legal community can help underprivileged rural communities by charging meager fees for their cases. They further discussed pro-bono cases and how the legal community looks at them.
The panelists finally concluded by discussing the various government policies that are already enforced to provide free legal aid to the rural communities of India. They also added how technology can help provide free and effective legal aid to rural India.
One of our panelists, Adv. Taranjit Singh shared his experience with us, “It was a great experience to sit on the panel today wherein I got an opportunity to explore and discuss the less talked about issue such as legal awareness in rural India and I hope that it is one of the right and significant steps towards contribution to a larger cause.”
From our panel. Adv. Siddhanth Deshpande said, “ It was a very nice experience and I gained some good insights from my fellow panelists. It was very insightful and a very important topic was covered which is mostly sidelined and nobody wants to discuss it. Nice initiative by Rest The Case.  I'm grateful that they covered this crucial topic.”.
Our CEO Ms. Shreya Sharma shared her thoughts about the panel discussion, “ Free Legal Aid For Rural Communities is an issue that is overlooked. With this panel discussion, we tried to raise awareness about the issues rural communities face and how they can be improved. It was indeed an insightful discussion that needed attention.”
